Thrust bearing failure is often caused by poor engine grounding, causing the system to find it's ground through the transmission while starting!
Internal arcing causes bearing races to pit over time, destroying the original hardness that is necessary for longevity
Creating and running a ground strap (10ga wire) from a bell-housing bolt back to the transmission mount is an inexpensive effort will help resolve this problem
